Sensei: Todd Shepherd
Grade: 2nd Dan Black Belt
Favourite Kata: Sepai
Favourite Technique: Mawashi uke

12.00pm)
Memorable Moments: Many, but the most
memorable moment would be in 2005 achieving
my 2nd Dan Black Belt. Both personally and
professionally it was one of the hardest things I
have ever done. To be amongst a select few at this
level in G.K.R. Karate is an honour.
Words of wisdom: Have a purpose to your training! Before the
beginning of each training session ask yourself “What do I want to achieve in this class?” More
recently I have found that by keeping a diary and
taking notes has enhanced my skills, particularly in
Kata. Practice the habit of diarizing any feedback
from your instructor – read over these notes
before class and concentrate on these specifi cs.
Self correction is an essential tool in your karate
development – be mindful of what your body is
actually doing, for example, are my elbows sticking
out, where is my returning hand, am I long and low
enough in my stances? Keep it simple and above all
else, enjoy your training sessions.
