Profile (recorded November 2008):
Sensei: Ron van Bruinessen
Grade: Sensei
Favourite Kata: Bassi-Dai
Favourite Technique: Kake Uke
Dojo: Rouse Hill Thursday 6.30 pm to 9.00 pm
Memorable Moments: Teaching my first class as
a Sensei and realizing that I was not being judged
by my students but looked upon as somebody who
could help and teach them, passing on what I had
learnt and continue to learn. Another great thrill is
watching my students at gradings, seeing them
work hard and the smiles on their faces after they
have successfully moved on to the next belt.
Words of Wisdom: Try not to feel silly during class
as the person standing to your right and the one
next to him or her at one point of their training has
probably made the same mistake. Don’t just accept
everything your taught ask questions, how, why,
when and where. Your Sensei and other students
are always happy to answer, the only silly question
is the one not asked.
Personal: I enjoy my training under Sensei Daniel
and being an instructor, I look forward to Thursday
night training and teaching with my class and still
get a thrill out of being called Sensei. I feel lucky to
have a great bunch of students at Rouse Hill dojo
and to be associated with Region2.
